The University of the South women's lacrosse team fended off Transylvania University (Ky.), 19-15, in a non-conference contest Thursday afternoon from Puett Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-A back-and-forth battle for most of the first half, the Tigers netted three straight goals in the second quarter to go from an 8-8 tie to an 11-8 lead with 6:43 to go.
-TU made it an 11-9 affair at the break, and cut the deficit down to one goal, 15-14, with 2:22 to go in the third
-With under a minute to go in the period, Brooke Sigmon's goal gave Sewnaee some insurance. Leading 16-14, goals by Sally Herrington and Alexa Berg and Sigmon midway through the final period sealed the victory for the Tigers.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Emma Burns matched the most goals scored in a game since 2015 with an eight-goal performance on Thursday, matching Mallory Grimm's C'15 performance against Birmingham-Southern.
Totaling nine ponts on the day, she becomes the third person since 2019 with nine points in a game (Hatte Fogarty C'22, 2022; Grace Zechman C'20, 2019 & 2020).
-Sally Herrington dropped five points on four goals and an assist, while Brooke Sigmon put together a hat trick and won three draw controls.
-On defense, Sally Whitehead forced four turnovers and scooped up six ground balls.
-Marlin Price recorded her fifth game of 10 draw controls or better with 12 on Thursday.
