Motlow State Community College Men’s Basketball Season ends in TCCAA Tourney Quarterfinals

After beating Jackson State to advance to the TCCAA/Region VII Men's Basketball Tournament quarterfinals, the Motlow Bucks season came to an end with a 91-76 loss to Chattanooga State last Sunday.

The Bucks finished the season 10-20 overall and 5-13 in conference play. Motlow was the No. 7 seed in the tournament, while Jackson State was No. 10 and Chattanooga State No. 2.

Motlow trailed most of the game against Chattanooga, including 45-30 at halftime. The Bucks played even with the Tigers, 46-46, in the second half but couldn't make up the deficit.

Kolbe Gray led the scoring for Motlow with 19 points and added five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Raymon Adams, named First Team All-TCCAA for the regular season, scored 11 with four rebounds and three assists.

Javon Martin added 10 points with three rebounds, and Debron Russell and Mi'Quan Tucker each scored nine points, with Tucker adding six rebounds and Russell five.

The Bucks shots 47.4 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from 3-point range. Motlow connected on 14-19 free throws and won the rebounding battle 36-31. Chattanooga shot 52.7 percent from the field and only hit 3-22 from 3-point range.

To get into the quarterfinals the Bucks beat Jackson State 118-83. Tucker scored 20 points, Adams had 14, Russell scored 12, Kane Reed had 11, and both Isaiah Curry and Dylan Wade scored 10. Lawrence Montgomery led the Bucks with 10 rebounds and Kolbe Gray dished out a team-high five assists. Motlow shot 54.8 percent from the field, including hitting 19-38 three-point shots.

Tucker finished as the high scorer for the season, scoring 422 points for a 14.6 per-game average. Adams scored 383 and averaged 13.2 per game. Adams pulled down 189 rebounds for a 6.5 per-game average. Wade had 149 rebounds to average 6.5.

Gray led the Bucks in assists with 94, while Gray edged Adams for the most steals 50-47. Freshman Lavonte Harris led the team with 24 blocked shots, with Tucker close behind with 20.
