Sequatchie County Sheriff's Office Receives Accreditation Accomplishment

Press Release

Re: Jail Accreditation Date: 12-05-22

On Thursday, December 1, 2022, the Sequatchie County Jail received Tier 1 Accreditation through the Tennessee Corrections Institute (T.C.I.), making it one of only five jails in the state of Tennessee to have achieved this accomplishment. Having obtained this accreditation will increase the funds that the jail receives from the State of Tennessee and it boosts the status of the jail making it eligible, and better qualified, for additional state and federal grant dollars. Maintaining this accreditation will also assist in the staff holding itself accountable while continuing to improve professionalism and all the things that helped them to become an accredited facility.

“Our jail administration and staff have worked very hard for some time now in preparation of this very thorough inspection”, said Sheriff Bill Phillips. He continued, “It has been a pleasure to watch them work so diligently and then rewarding to see them walk into my office with a grin on their faces after a difficult day of inspection. Seeing what they have accomplished and then to recognize that Sequatchie County has one of only a few jails in the state to have achieved this is pretty amazing and is something all of us in this county can be proud of”. The sheriff said this is just another example of the progress he is seeing around the Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Office and wanted to let all employees know he is extremely proud of the way they have responded over the past few months. “I want to thank Jail Administrator Justin Higdon, Captain Jessica Lockhart and Lieutenant Stacy Slaven, as well as all of their amazing staff for their hard work and dedication to making our jail a top-notch facility, now recognized as one of the best in the state of Tennessee”, the sheriff concluded.
