Announced on Monday afternoon by the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), Russ Marr was tabbed the Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week, as determined by the league office.
The 2022 SAA Newcomer of the Year had a phenomenal first week to his sophomore campaign in a Sewanee uniform. In three games, Marr totaled 24 points per game and shot 23-of-42 (54.8%) from the field.
Additionally, 14 of his 23 shots came from beyond the arc, as he had a 45.2% performance from downtown (14-of-31).
From the charity stripe, he knocked down 12-of-16 and added eight rebounds, six assists and four blocks.
Marr had a career night inside Juhan Gymnasium on Friday versus Warren Wilson (N.C.). The Bryant, Ala. dropped a new high of 37 points on 11-of-14 from the floor and 7-of-9 from downtown. Additionally, he was a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe as he led the Tigers to a new school record for most points scored in a game, breaking a 32-year record set in 1990.
On ball control, he swatted away three shots.
Playing in just 18 minutes, Marr matched top marks in field goals made (11), 3-pointers made (7) and blocks (3).
Sewanee has a busy week on the hardwood entering week two of the new year. After Monday's showdown with Emory (Ga.), the Tigers will make the trek to LaGrange, Ga. for the Wingate by Wyndham Classic.
