On Friday, October 14th, the University of the South Men's Soccer team took on Birmingham Southern in an SAA match. A physical back and forth contest was settled when Wells Durham scored in the 65th minute to give Sewanee a 2-1 win.
INSIDE THE MATCH UP:
Sewanee (10-3, 3-2 SAA) 2, Birmingham Southern (5-4-3, 1-3-1) 1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sewanee took five shots in the first 10 minutes, going on the attack early.
- In the 12th minute, Connor Cheynet finished a pass from Trevor Reichman. Cheynet's first goal of the year gave Sewanee a 1-0 lead.
- The Sewanee lead would only last two minutes, as Coleman Jennings scored in the 14th minute to pull the Panthers to 1-1.
- The start of the second half saw both sides come out fast, but neither were able to find the back of the net.
- In the 65th minute, Wells Durham found daylight and put one home in the lower corner to put Sewanee up 2-1.
- The lead would hold, as the Tiger defense held the Panthers to just two shots in the last 20 minutes.
KEY SEWANEE STATISTICS:
- The Tigers out shot the Panthers 19-7.
- Reichman's first assist of the year puts him at 17 points, with eight goals to his credit this season. His 17 points are good for third in the SAA, and his eight goals put him at second in the conference.
KEY BIRMINGHAM SOUTHERN STATISTICS:
- Giacomo Magrini had four saves.

Sewanee returns home on Sunday, October 16th for a match with Millsaps. The Tigers will also be celebrating Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 1:30PM.
