The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) released its Player of the Week award winners on Monday. For volleyball, junior outside hitter Laurel Burkhardt won the SAA Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week after her contributions in the University of the South's weekend split of Millsaps College and No. 25 Birmingham-Southern College, as voted on by the league's head coaches.
In two matches, Burkhardt totaled 25 kills; however, she posted a .344 attack percentage, as she committed just three errors on 64 swings (25-3-64). Additionally, she had 26 digs and assisted on five blocks for 28.5 points.
Saturday against Millsaps, the junior did not commit an error at the net, recording nine kills on 27 swings for a .333 percentage, and she also added 18 digs.
The next day vs. BSC, she posted 16 kills, missing her career-high by two, and tallied a .351 attack percentage (16-3-37). She also assisted on three blocks.
Burkhardt and the rest of the Tigers return to action on Friday with the second half of the SAA schedule, starting with No. 7 Berry College in Rome, Georgia.
