The University of the South volleyball team could not find its rhythm with Centre College in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest, Wednesday night from Alumni Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee got out to a 6-5 lead early in the set, and the teams would go back-and-forth from there.
-Leading 11-10, the Colonels strung together four straight points to lead, 15-10. The home team kept the momentum to a 25-20 victory.
-In the second set, the Purple Tigers got out to an early 6-2 lead, but the Colonels won the next six points to go up, 8-6. After going back-and-forth, leading 16-14, CC scored three more times in a row to lead 19-14.
-Trailing 23-16, Sewanee did put together thre straight points thanks to two errors and an Adele Cassidy ace, but Centre won the final two points to go up two sets to none.
-The third set, despite the Tigers dropping four kills on offense, the Colonels committed 11 attack errors to keep the visitors in the set.
-The Colonels were dominant in the match, posted 50 kills to the Tigers' 23. Sewanee did edge Centre, 6-5, in service aces. Trailing 20-14, Sewanee won five straight points. The first three points were scored off of attack errors by Centre, then Lexi Williams scored the next two on service aces.
-From there, the teams traded points. Trailing 23-21, another attack error by CC put the Tigers down one, but after a Centre timeout, the Colonels secured the final two points to take the match.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Lydia Goffi led the Tigers with eight kills and added two aces. She finished with 10.5 points thanks to a block assist.
-Anna Ball corralled 13 digs, while Adele Cassidy added 12.
CENTRE KEY STATISTICS
-Ally Knueven posted 17 kills and a .316 swing percentage to lead all attackers.
UP NEXT
Sewanee returns home for another SAA Weekend, as the Tigers will host Hendrix College on Saturday afternoon at noon inside Juhan Gymnasium.
