Sewanee Associate Professor of English Lauryl Tucker, C’99, competes on today’s episode of “Jeopardy!” and we’re hoping there’s a James Joyce category. (Wednesday, June 29. Check local listings for channel and broadcast time.) Tucker says it was hard to do, but she was able to keep her appearance on the show a secret from her students. “I left for L.A. about 24 hours after having my Joyce seminar over to the house on April 27, and was dying to tell them that their dotty professor was about to be on TV (and that she could now name all the presidents in order), but it didn't really help us with Molly Bloom's monologue, so I was good and kept my mouth shut.” Tucker will be tuned in tonight along with the rest of us to see exactly what happened: “Actually playing the game—holding that buzzer, making wagers, all of that—was a giddy and wild experience. I'm honestly looking forward to watching because there's a lot that's just a blur in my memory!”
