The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released on Sunday night the field of 38 teams for the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championships. The University of the South will be one of the hosts for an opening round game.
The Tigers will take on the Eagles of Benedictine University (Ill.) from historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11.
The Purple and White were one of 27 automatic qualifiers to the championship after securing the 2022 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament Championship on May 1.
Sewanee will make its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance (2013-14-15-16-17-22). This will be the first time in program history that the team has hosted an NCAA Tournament game.
Benedictine is 12-6 on the year and winners of back-to-back Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament Championships.
The winner of the game Wednesday night will head to top-seed Christopher Newport (Va.) on Saturday, May 14, in the second round.
More information will be released as early as Monday.
